Thank you!

Hey everyone, thank you so much for checking out my blog!!! I really appreciate everyone checking out my blog! I was recently 39th on the MLBlogs leaders list, and I am very happy. To all my readers, thank you very much!!!!

So the Padres did not play well at all this past weekend. Absolutely no offense. They scored a total of 4 runs the whole series. I give credit to the Dodgers pitching staff, they shut us down. I’m really mostly worried about Kyle Blanks,
Will Venable,

and Adrian Gonzalez.
These guys are all slumping. I know its not time to push the panic button, its really early in the season, but I am still concerned. Hopefully they can break out of their slumps very soon, we need their bats in the lineup.
There is one man who has been swinging the bat well. That is Yorvit Torreabla. The dude can flat out hit. He has been the best bargain in free agency.
The Padres look to end their 3 game skid versus the Giants tonight at 7:05 PM PT. I can’t wait, Clayton Richard goes for the Padres versus Matt Cain of the Giants.
Have a good afternoon and night everyone, and God bless!
GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Runnin’ Fast

First of all, I apologize for not blogging for about 2 weeks. I will try to blog much more often.
I’ve had a ton of fun watching these Padres over the first months and a couple days of this season. It’s great, it really is. They keep finding ways to win. Even with this guy in a slump,http://619sports.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/AdrianGonzalez1.jpg

This big fella not hitting well, http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c0/Kyle_Blanks.jpg/300px-Kyle_Blanks.jpg

They are 21-12, and have the best record in the major leagues. Now, say you were told before the season that the Padres would have a 21-12 record, with Adrian in a slump for the Padres’ last 11-12 games. You wouldn’t have believed that, would you? This team is not all about 1 player, it’s about a team. I believe in them. I think they believe in themselves. And boy, is it showing on the ballfield.

The Padres are leading the league with 44 stolen bases. It is some kinda nice. This changes ballgames. Take this as an example: Earlier this year, the Padres faced Jonathan Sanchez, who was on his game. The only hit he and the Giants allowed that day was a leadoff single in the 4th by Chase Headley. After the single, Headley stole second, advanced to 3rd on a popout, and scored on a sac fly. The Padres won that game 1-0 with only one hit for them.

No one is talking about the Padres. Not ESPN, not CBS, not FOX, it’s funny, it really is. They have the best record in the NL, and they are still talking about other teams. No credit is given. But the good thing is, these Padres don’t care one bit. They don’t care one single bit. They’re just going out and getting wins. Sure, some wins aren’t pretty. like when they left 16 runners on base when they beat the Giants 3-2 on Tuesday. But so what? That 17-2 win earlier in the year shows up the same as the 3-2 win on the W/L column.

Finally, pitching has been the key to the Padres so far this year. The bullpen is fantastic, and the starters are pitching well. You get to the 7th inning as a starter with the lead? Easy. Gregorson, Adams, and Bell finish the ballgame up with a W more times than not. Need a stopper? We got Jon Garland, a vet, ready to take the mound.

There was some sad news on Sunday, when Padres fans heard that Kevin Correia’s brother fell off a cliff while hiking with his friends, and died. The funeral is today at 10:30 AM at Saint Agnus Catholic Church. Please, say a quick prayer for the Correia’s as they go through the rough time. I am praying for them. God bless the Correia’s and R.I.P. Kevin Correia’s brother.

Today, at 12:45 PM PT, the Padres go for a 3 game sweep over the Giants. Mat Latos, following up his best outing last time up, goes against Jonathan Sanchez, who has only allowed 5 hits in his last 2 starts.  Should be a great game. Have a great day you guys, stay safe, and God bless!!!

Rollin!!!!

These Padres are rolling. 4 wins in a row, great pitching, defense, everything. Plus a little drama. It all started on Friday versus the Diamondbacks.

Things weren’t looking good on Friday. The Pads were down by 3 in the 7th, until the came to life. They got a leadoff double by Kyle Blanks, he advanced to 3rd on a flyout, and scored on a ground out. Good job of manufacturing a run. In the 8th, the Padres loaded the bases, and Kyle Blanks walked, forcing in a run. Scott Hairston was unable to capitalize with the bases loaded, and the score was 3-2 going into the 9th. In the bottom of the 9th, Nick Hundley led off with a walk. He advanced to 2nd on a Jerry Hairston sac bunt, and then Everth Cabrera struck out. It was all up to Eckstein. He doubled of Gerardo Parra’s head in left, scoring Hundley. It was 3-3!! Then the D-Backs proceeded to walk A-Gon. Bringing up- Chase Headley. He did this:
He deposited a 3 run walk off dinger into the stands in right, a BOMB. I was going nuts. Final score, 6-3 Pads.
I went to game 2 at PETCO on Saturday. It was great. Before the game, Adrian Gonzalez received his Gold Glove for the 2009 season. It was great.
The Padres scored in the 1st on a double play groundout to make it 1-0. In the 4th inning, Nick Hundley sent a liner over the wall in left for his first big fly of the season.
There was no more scoring until the 7th, when Scott Hairston walked with the bases loaded to make it 3-0. Nick Hundley was up next, and hit a little ducksnort single, scoring 2.
The Padres then shut out the D-Backs over the next 2 innings, and the Padres took game 2, 5-0.
Game 3 was much like game 1, in a way. The D-Backs took a quick 2-0 lead, and held it until the bottom of the 7th. Leading off the bottom of the 7th was Scott Hairston and he hit a homer just over the left field wall, making it 2-1.
The D-Backs then proceeded to get the next two outs. Everth Cabrera then singled, stole second, and Jerry Hairston then hit a run scoring double. Of course, they walked Adrian again. Chase Headley got another chance to make the D-Backs pay for walking A-Gon, and boy, did he cash in. He hit a 2 run double.  Then the cutoff man botched the throw home, and Chase ran all the way around to score. It was awesome!!!!! Mike Adams then did a great job, as he retired the D-Backs 1-2-3. Heath Bell came in to shut the door. Although he gave up a run scoring double to Stephen Drew, he still earned the save, and the Padres swept the D-Backs, final score was 5-3.
The Padres began a 3 game series at home versus the Giants last night. Clayton Richard was pitching for the Padres versus Matt Cain of the Giants.
The Padres got a quick run in the first inning on a Adrian Gonzalez sac fly.
The Giants got that run back in the 4th, though. Pablo Sandoval hit a run scoring single, making the score 1-1. In the 6th, Kyle Blanks led off with a triple. Will Venable then hit a sac fly, and the Padres took the lead. There was no more scoring until the top of the 9th, when Heath Bell came in to try and shut the door. But Juan Uribe hit a solo homer, tying the score. It was still 2-2 going into the bottom of the 10th, when David Eckstein led off the inning with a drive to deep left field, going, going, GONE!!!
PADRES WIN!!! Eck hit a walk off homer, and the Padres won 3-2!!!
He then got a Gatorade bath after:
The Padres team is playing hard, with efforts such as this:
And things are coming together. Hopefully the Padres can keep this win streak alive. Mat Latos goes for the Padres tonight versus Jonathan Sanchez of the Giants.
The Thunder also play tonight in game 2 versus the Lakers. The Thunder had a tough game on Sunday, losing 87-79. Hopefully they can take game 2.
Have a good rest of afternoon and night everybody!! Stay safe, and God bless.

Up and Down

First of all, I want to thank everyone for visiting my blog. In the latest MLBlogs leaderboards, i placed 47th, it’s my first time in the top 50! So thank you everyone, I really appreciate it :)

Secondly, it’s been an up and down road for the Padres in these first 8 games of the season. They are 3-5. By far the best win they’ve had was the 17-2 win over the Braves, that was sweet. But the 6-1 loss last night just proves that in baseball, even when you think you have it figured out, you can still go out there and lose against a pretty good pitcher. They fan into an ace last night, or at least he pitched like one. His name was Tommy Hanson.
This man has some nasty stuff. He has an upper 90′s heater, a 12-6 curve, a sweeping slider, man. He just was too much for the Pads to handle.
The man pitching today for the Padres, though, has stuff similar to Hanson. His name is Mat Latos.

He has an upper 90′s heater, a changeup, a curve, and a slider. He has similar stuff to Tommy Hanson. No doubt, he could be a front of the line starter. He has THAT good of stuff. May be the next Jake Peavy for the Padres. You never know. Here is just a tidbit of his stuff that he is capable of throwing. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=6003335
I love this great game of baseball. Part of the reason is, unlike football, you can redeem yourself quicker. In football, if you lost, you have to wait a week to try to redeem yourself. But in baseball, you can redeem yourself the next day. I sure hope the Padres can redeem themselves and win the rubber game of this 3 game series versus the Braves!!!
This has nothing to do with baseball, but the Thunder wrapped up their 2009-2010 regular season yesterday. Kevin Durant won the scoring crown over LeBron James, and the Thunder play the Lakers in round 1 of the playoffs. First game is at 12 noon on Sunday on ABC. GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!
Have a good day everyone, stay safe, and God bless!!!
GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First W of 2010!!!

What a great win. We had pitching, hitting, speed, defense, man, this is what Padres baseball should be. So here is my recap of the Padres 2nd game of the 2010 campaign.

1ST INNING:

In the first inning, the Padres went down 1-2-3. The Diamondbacks also didn’t get a hit, but Stephen Drew did reach base on an error by Chase Headley. He would redeem himself though. More on that later.

2ND INNING:

This is when the Padres started to hit. Not all of the 3 hits of this inning for the Padres were hard, but they all count as the same. It started when Chase Headley singled up the middle with 1 out. Will Venable then struck out. Nick Hundley was up next, and hit a swinging bunt probbly about 35 feet down the 3rd base line, and Mark Reynolds could not make the play. Then, Everth Cabrera doubled home 2 Padres, as the Padres took a quick 2-0 lead.

The D-Backs went down 1-2-3 in the second.

3RD INNING:

The Padres couldnt muster another run in the 3rd, although Tony Gwynn walked a stole a base with no one out.

The D-Backs could also not muster anything in the 3rd, as C.Y. looked to be in complete control.

4TH INNING:

In the 4th inning, Will Venable knocked his first of the season 400- something feet to right field, as the Padres took a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the 4th, the D-Backs couldn’t muster anything off C.Y. After 4, Padres lead, 3-0.

5TH INNING:

In the 5th, the Padres couldn’t muster anything.

In the bottom of the 5th, C.Y. ran into a little bit of trouble. Although 2 fantastic back handed stabs and great throws at 3rd by Chase Headley got him out of danger.

6TH INNING:

In the 6th inning, Everth Cabrera struck again. With 2 runners on base, Everth went to the right-center field gap, scoring 2 and ending up with a 2 run triple.

In the bottom half, C.Y. completed his final inning of work. His statline? 6.0 IP, 0 R, 1 hit, and 3 BB. Pretty good for a guy who hadn’t started a regular season game since last season.

7TH INNING:

The Padres couldn’t ad any insurance in the top of the 7th.

In the bottom half, though, Arizona struck for 3 runs, and I was getting a little nervous. The final out was a fly out to the warning track in left. With a sigh of relief, the score was now 5-3.

8TH INNING:

Although the Padres did have runners on first and second, they couldn’t score.

The D-Backs had a leadoff single against reliever Mike Adams, but couldn’t score, and it headed to the 9th, Padres leading 5-3.

9TH INNING:

In the 9th, Adrian Gonzalez crushed a ball to right field, going, going, gone. His 2nd of this young campaign, and the friars now got a little bit of insurance, the lead now 6-3.

In the bottom half of the 9th, Conor Jackson led off with an infield single. Heath Bell quickly erased that with a 5-4-3 double play, highlighted by a beautiful scoop at first by Adrian Gonzalez. Heath then struck out Justin Upton, and the Padres win!!!!

It was a great first win for the ballclub. It was highlighted by good pitching, good hitting, and speed. This is Padres baseball.

The Padres actually play in a couple of hours, start time at 6:40 PM PT. Kevin Correia starts for the Padres versus Ian Kennedy of the Diamondbacks. Hopefully the Padres can win the rubber game of this series, and win their first series of this very young season.

The Thunder lost last night, 140-139. It was a great game though. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 45 points, but the Thunder just couldn’t pull this one out in OT.

Have a good rest of afternoon and night everyone! Stay safe, and God bless!

Tough L

Man, what a tough game to start the 2010 campaign. Very tough. Here is the recap:

In the first inning, the Padres went down 1-2-3.
In the bottom of the first, along with an Everth Cabrera error that really hurt the Padres, Miguel Montero hit a 2 run single. Bam. Just like that. Down 2-0 versus a fantastic pitcher.
In the second inning, The Padres got their first heat of the season, a double by Chase Headley with 1 out. But they couldn’t get him home, and the score remained 2-0, D-Backs.
In the bottom of the second, the D-Backs went down 1-2-3.
Padres did nothing in the top of the 3rd, but in the bottom of the 3rd Mark Reynolds went deep, a 2 run shot.
In the 4th, the Padres again went down 1-2-3. In the bottom half, Stephen Drew hit an inside the park homer to put the D-Backs up 6-0.
There was not much action until the top of the 7th, when Adrian Gonzalez doubled. Chase Headley brought him home with a single, making it 6-1.
The score remained 6-1 until, with 2 outs in the top of the 9th, A-Gon and Kyle Blanks went back-to-back, making it 6-3. But that was all the Padres could muster, and the D-Backs win game 1, 6-3.
It was a tough loss, but they just needed to get their Opening Day jitters out of the way. I’m feeling a win for the Pads tonight, as Chris Young takes the hill versus Edwin Jackson.
Have a good afternoon and night everyone, stay safe, and God Bless!!!

End of the 2010 Spring Training in Arizona

Yesterday, the Padres concluded their 2010 Spring Training in Arizona. They finished with a 16-10-2 record, and led the Major leagues in stolen bases. It doesn’t mean anything though. It all changes Monday, when the games count for real. I can’t wait, it is gonna be awesome. Now here is the projected lineup I think Buddy Black should go with on Monday.

Lineup:

1. Everth Cabrera

2. David Eckstein

3. Adrian Gonzalez

4. Kyle Blanks

5. Scott Hairston

6. Chase Headley

7. Will Venable

8. Nick Hundley

9. Pitchers spot

I got E-Can batting 1st because of his speed. Eck second because he doesn’t have much pop, but can execute the hit and run, move E-Cab to 3rd on a single, etc. Adrian’s gonna hit 3rd because he has the pop for a possible 3 run jack, but can also go oppo field or pull a pitch for singles, doubles, and even triples if he gets lucky. The 4 spot is going to be huge this season. I think Blanks is gonna have a great year behind Adrian. I’m calling maybe a .275/35/100 season. I think this because last year Blanks averaged a home run in every 14 ABs, while Albert Pujols of the Cardinals averaged a homer every 11 ABs. Pujols finished with around 50 dingers, so Blanks should hit 35, in my opinion. Scott Hairston hits 5th because he is so clutch, but also has a decent amount of speed. The 6th spot with Headley in it should be very interesting, because he is going back to his natural position at 3rd base. Don’t expect a lot out of him defensively, but i think he can put up some strong hitting numbers in 2010. Will Venable has a chance to become a star in the future, but this season, he is a perennal 20/20 guy. He has speed, pop, and can hit for a decent average. The 8th spot in where Hundley will bat. This is an interesting year for Hundley, he has something to prove. If he can’t put up good numbers, don’t expect him to start everyday in 2010 and 2011.

Pitching Rotation:

1. Jon Garland

2. Kevin Correia

3. Chris Young

4. Clayton Richard

5. Mat Latos

The Padres rotation is gonna be good if they can stay healthy. That will be really key. C.Y. has to prove himself again before he has to become a #1 starter. Garland and Correia will put up solid numbers, and Richard and Latos may have breakout years.

Outlook:

The Padres have loads of talent, but it is raw, young talent. If the young guys can play really well and not have a long slump in the middle of the season, I think the Padres will be playing baseball come October.

Hope you all are having a good Holy Thursday! Stay safe tonight, and God Bless!

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Thunder beat the Celtics yesterday and moved a little closer to a playoff spot. They are 46-28 on the season. KD scored 37 points and got 8 boards in the win. Green hit a couple of 3′s to seal the game up, and many other players got into the act as well. It was a great win.

My Apologies

I am so sorry that I haven’t blogged for a while. I’ve been playing a lot of basketball recently, i’ve been to Fresno, and now I am on Spring Break, so life is going pretty well. Life is going pretty well for the Padres as well. They’ve shown some real promise, if i’m not mistaken, they are 15-10-1 this spring. But records don’t matter whatsoever at this point. The Friars have played well. Chase Headley, most of all. This guy was slumping for 2 years, with an average around .250 while playing left field. Now in ST, he has 20 RBI’s in 18 games while he’s returned to an everyday 3rd baseman. Possibly playing at his natural postition will improve his numbers dramatically? I sure hope so.

(Photo courtesy of Getty Images and Fanhouse.com)

So I am going to be in school Monday April 5th, at 2:10 PM, and probably will be pulling my hair out in class, It’s going to drive me crazy knowing that my Padres are playing the first game of the season and I won’t even be able to watch it. I think i’ll sneak my iPod Touch into the class and follow the game secretly with MLB At Bat 2010.

Maybe that’ll work, idk. I just hope my teacher doesn’t read this blog!!!! Haha cuz if he does I’m sure he’ll be keeping an eye on me in class, making sure I am following his lesson instead of the Padres.

The Padres named Jon Garland the Opening Day starter. This surprised me a lot because i thought maybe C.Y. or K-Cor would get the nod. But Buddy Black knows what he’s doing. Oh yeah, and Garland starting Opening day means C.Y. will be hurling the rock at the home opener on April 12th.

Man, all this talk about baseball is getting me pumped. Another season, another 162 games, Even though the Padres may not get there this year, they still got a good solid bunch of young guys that will make a difference.

Have a good night everybody,  and God Bless!

GO PADRES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO THUNDER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Countdown to Opening Day: 19 Days

OK, so I’ve decided to countdown to Opening Day on my blog, and it is really hard to believe that it is just 19 days until the Padres play their st game of the season on the road versus the Arizona Diamondbacks. I can’t wait, it’s gonna be a season filled with excitement, you and i can be sure of that.
So now, getting down to business. The Friars are 4-9 in Spring Training. Big deal. Lol it doesn’t really matter. In fact, the Phillies had a 13-19 record in Spring Training last year- and look how they ended up- as NL Champs. In fact, even the Angels (3-8), Pirates (4-8), Rangers (4-8), and Orioles (5-8) have similar records as the Padres. So nothing to worry about. They are just getting their timing down and adjusting to playing ball everyday again.
I really wish that I could’ve tried to sign up earlier to play some senior league baseball at my local little league, but the teams have already been set up and I wasn’t able to get a spot because I waited too long to try and sign up… oh well. I’ll play in the summer. In the meantime, I think i’m gonna play in a basketball league with some of my friends, so that will be fun.
http://www.fsdb.k12.fl.us/RMC/content/images/basketball4.jpg(photo courtesy of fsdb.k12.fl.us)

Padres play today versus the KC Royals at 1:05 PM PT. Clayton Richard and Sean Gallagher are scheduled to pitch today. Also, the OKC Thunder play at 4 PM PT versus the Charlotte Bobcats. Both should be great games.

Also, outsidephillies had my 300th comment on my blog earlier this week! Thanks for checking out my blog outsidephillies and everyone!!!

Have a great day, and God bless.

Not much to blog about

Man, Spring Training is in the thick of things and the Padres are 2-7. No worries, though. They’ve been playing good ball. Everybody will be ready for Opening Day. I don’t really follow Spring Training games closely, you know what I mean? It just isn’t like the regular season. I don’t know about you guys, but I am already ready for Opening Day.

I’m not yet locked into baseball, though. I’m more into basketball right now. But when Opening Day comes around, I am surely going to be in the baseball and basketball mood.
Matt Antonelli has been a real bright spot for the Padres this Spring. He was a guy who fell off the radar last year, and didn’t hit very well. But now, he’s out of that slump, and could maybe be the Padres future 2nd baseman for years to come.
That’s about all I have for now.
God bless!!!
